HOW TO GET TO YLLAS, FINLAND?

Lapland is far up North but luckily it is fairly easy to access by train, car, and plane.

BY CAR.

Helsinki – Äkäslompolo: ~12 hours

It takes about 12 hours to drive from Helsinki to Äkäslompolo. Fortunately, Finnish roads are in good condition and the scenery beautiful. Public transport in Lapland is scarce and it’s, therefore, a good idea to have a car when you reach your destination in order to explore the Ylläs area as well as possible. There are car heater pylons and shelters outside every house to keep your car snow-free and warm.

BY TRAIN.

Helsinki – Kolari: 14 hours

There is a non-stop night train departing from Helsinki every evening. The trip takes 14 hours and arrive in Kolari, 40 km from Äkäslompolo, the next morning. There is a shuttle bus (operated by Rundgren and Eskelisen Lapin Linjat) scheduled after every train which takes travelers from Kolari train station to Äkäshotelli in Äkäslompolo, which is 1,4 km from our houses. The bus costs 12,60€ per adult and you will find more information on the website of the website of the bus company.

You can also book a separate sleeping car on the night train – remember to reserve it in advance! If you want to bring a car to Äkäslompolo in a convenient way, you can take it with you on the train as well. BY PLANE.

Helsinki – Kittilä: 1,5 hours

The Kittilä Airport (KTT) is located 50 km from Äkäslompolo. There are several direct flights from Helsinki every day (operated by SAS, Finnair and Norwegian) but also non-stop flights from Zürich (Finnair) and München (Lufthansa) every Saturday. There is a shuttle bus (operated by Rundgren and Eskelisen Lapin Linjat) scheduled after every flight which brings you from the airport to Äkäshotelli in Äkäslompolo, 1,4 km from our houses.
